Poetry is not
Easy for me to fathom
Unless it's haiku.
Then for some reason
I can't stop counting, typing
Syllables and words.
I'm not certain if
It's okay to continue
As if it were verse.
I don't know the rules
Or the structure of it all
Still, it's fun to try.
So I continue
And I write in three lines of
Five seven and five.
Someone stop me now
Before I take it to tweets
Or I keep blogging.
I promise I'll stop
As soon as I discover
How to stop thinking.
Because bad haiku
Is a tragedy of words
Perpetuated.
