Friday Fajitas with Friends

by | |
Friday night, I went over to Jen's house for an impromptu fajita night. Now, for the last couple of months, I've been sticking to a pretty flexible but successful diet and exercise program. Mostly, I run or walk every day, especially those days that include things like wine, fajitas, and ice cream cake. I had errands to run on Friday afternoon so I couldn't go on my walk or run.

Fine. I'll be honest.

I got a manicure.

For the first time in two years.

It was heavenly.

And way more fun than running.

Still haven't experienced that whole "runner's high" thing. I think it's an urban legend.

Anyway, I decided to walk over to Jen's house from my place, catching a ride home with my friend Anne. Tara mapped it for me. I gave myself plenty of time to walk the three miles and still make it in time for dinner.

I put on my fancy sneakers - the really pretty aqua and hot pink ones that cost enough to make me a little light headed. I put the bottle of wine and bag of cilantro in a tote and set off down the hill.

A mile into my trek, I thought to myself, "Wow. This wine isn't very heavy. All of those bicep curls with the two pound weights must really be paying off!"

And then I glanced into my bag and realized I'd accidentally grabbed the half bottle instead of the full bottle.

Now, I had a choice. I could either walk back, pick up the other bottle and then drive over.

Or I could call Chad who lives three miles from my place.

Hey! What are ex-husband's for?

After he picked himself up off the floor at the idea of me walking to Jen's house, he agreed to pick up the bottle of wine.

So I continued my walk, texting deeply philosophical musings to Cam and Nancy. You know, like who we find oddly attractive. Like Dexter. Or Jerry Stiller. (Not me.)

I made the three miles in 35 minutes, holding up to wait for Chad on a street corner across from the homeless shelter for him to hand me my wine.

He also handed me an Elizabeth who was only too excited to see Baby Holden and Baby Harper Jeanne.

The walk was well worth it. I was able to relax and enjoy a few glasses of wine, some wonderful food, and some even more wonderful friends.

Because there's something pretty amazing about Friday Fajitas with Friends.

What? Jerry Stiller still has a great smile, and he was a funny, jolie-laide kind of handsome back in the day.
